With a sense of humor and sure instinct for color and design, Pat Dougherty paints her way into the heart of contemporary Americana. She has developed her own style within the Folk Art tradition -- a straightforward, upbeat style that delights in ordinary people, familiar landscapes and commonplace events.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Dougherty currently makes her home in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Her work displays a deep affection for both settings: the bustling streets of her native city and the tranquil back roads of the Virginia countryside.
Still married to her childhood sweetheart, Dougherty has three children and seven grandchildren. He experience as a wife, mother and professional nurse is evident in her celebration of life and family. Every canvas imparts a feeling of joy and well-being. Dougherty wants the viewer to cheer up, relax and join in the fun.
Fanciful, brirght, witty -- Dougherty's work is represented in numerous distinguished private and public collections.
